Presentation Lab
“Be empowered and get your message out through public speaking”
The foundation of the club is to assist you become a better public speaker. with the goal of making the world
a better place to be. When you become better speaker, you will be
able to articulate what you want to do and what you have to offer to the world.
We want you to feel confident in
your journey of personal development.
In meetings, you are encouraged to share and mingle with like-minded
individuals.
Consider this:
The “presentation lab” is a space where business
owners, leaders, consultants of any industry, and anyone who is keen to improve
their public speaking skills come and practice. Public speaking is among the
top 10 things most feared by many, behind death and going to the dentist.
The idea is to really help you prepare to do that elevator pitch or that presentation and gain that confidence which will propel your success. May be you are the MC of a wedding or of a charity gala. Or you work for an organization and you are afraid to speak. We’ve all been there.
Having good presentation skills has an impact on your job and your ability to earn higher income. Internally, it challenges your comfort zone and obliges you to think like leaders do.
Who is this for:
The group is mostly geared towards women (and friendly gentlemen) who are eager to learn, develop, share and support each other.
Public Speaking is among the most feared thing to do. Yet, it is beneficial in so many ways.
1. Do you have to do a presentation for your job?
2. Is your income dependent on your presentations skills?
3. Are you an aspiring speaker?
4. Do you have a positive message to share with the world?
5. Do you know what to say when someone asks you “What do you do”?
If you have replied "Yes" to at least one of the above, then you want to be with us.
What do we
do?
1. We
provide fellow Canadians the opportunity to practice presentations
2. We
help you improve and practice your delivering your presentation
3. Be
among a community of leaders, movers and shakers who want to be the best in
their field.
4. It
is a group where each member fine tunes his or hers elevator pitch when someone
asks, “what do you do?”
5. Members
will have the opportunity to practice for an interview, their job or for personal
reasons.
6. And
after their speech, each speaker will be provided with positive and
constructive feedback.
Why Choose
Presentation Lab?
At Presentation Canada, our
philosophy is to create a fun, creative, relaxed environment and there are no
rigid rules for you have to abide for each speech.
Your presentation may take the form
of a formal speech, a poem, a song (professional singers if permitted by
location) or you take the mic and tell a story or be a comedian.
The only boundaries are: you come
with an open mind, with the goal of sharing, be supportive to others, professionalism,
have respect for others when they say Yes or No, and be friendly.
Speaker levels:
There are different speaker levels and
different age groups. All are welcomed.
1.
The “Newbie”: You have never done a speech
or presentation before. You would like to break the shell and take the fear out
of you. You might not be shy as a person, but will freeze once on the stage and
will not know how to deliver a speech. And this person, should definitely come
out and speak as regularly as possible.
You could be as young as 10 years old
A teenager
An adult or senior citizen
An immigrant or an ESL student (English as a Second
Language).
2.
The “Experienced”. You speak
regularly in public and you are very comfortable in doing so. With ease, you
can deliver your opinion or a thought process in 2 minutes, on any impromptu
topic presented to you.
3.
Professional speakers, Masters of
Ceremony: Your pace, delivery, pronunciation, intonation, voice, vocabulary and
eye contact are excellent. The crowd cannot wait to hear from you. You know how
to engage them and you are excellent in getting the audience to participate. We
want to hear you out!
4.
The “Trainer Coach”: You have
studied the science of public speaking in and out, and it is actually your
business. You take pride in coaching others on their voice, intonation, body
language and gestures and everything that makes a speaker stellar. Canadians
look up to you when looking for guidance and advice on the topic. We want your
guidance.
5.
Comedians, Journalists, and media Reporters
etc…
6.
Singers and bands: After all,
professional singers and music bands (where possible) are part of expressing
oneself through vocal music and instruments. We encourage you to join us on the
podium and share your passion on the stage with us.

Still
doubting yourself?
After your speech, you might have a
sense that it was awful. That is very natural... They key is to prepare and
practice, practice and practice!
Listeners,
give constructive feedback
By giving feedback, you now have to
become more of an active listener. And isn’t this the very skill your loved
ones, spouses and customers want you to be? To really listen to them!
By giving feedback, you are at the
same time, developing more the other skill, “which is listening”.
By giving feedback, you are also thinking
how are your speaking skills. Do you make the same mistakes. What did the
speaker do that you like or not like?
Speakers: Receive
positive feedback and tips
1.
Being honest with yourself is the
only way to know if you were successful or not. The audience will share their
thoughts with you.
2.
Did they enjoy it?
3.
Was it too long?
4.
Did they feel connected with you,
and your message?
5.
Were you too fast or too slow in
your pace?
6.
Did you have a great opening, a
conclusion and a body in your message?
If the audience likes it, then so
could your next boss or next big client. I bet you did not think of that, have
you?
If the audience did not adore it
that much, then it is great to know on how you can improve. Hence, you
practicing and receiving feedback is great for your development.
Are you
that really shy??
If you are very shy, do not worry.
We each have to start somewhere. Talk to us and we’ll share with you on how we
can work with you and try to get the words out from your mouth.
